60 minutes - 30 for anaesthetic and 30 for the treatment
The basic premise behind micro-needling is to stimulate the production of new collagen by needling the skin. Taking advantage of the skin’s ability to heal itself, micro-needling causes micro-injuries to the epidermis. This signals the body to produce collagen to repair the damaged area, which rejuvenates the skin making your skin look younger and fresher.
Micro-needling is becoming a well-known term nowadays and is a treatment which is gaining increased popularity each year. More advanced than traditional micro-needling devices such as Dermaroller®, Dermapen™ is an electronically powered micro-needling pen designed so that multiple needles can vertically pierce the skin to enhance rejuvenation results. This prompts the skin to produce more collagen and elastin, giving amazing anti-ageing benefits.
Dermapen™ is a handheld device about the size of a pen. It has a piece that is inserted into the top which contains tiny needles, which penetrate the skin at different levels. This varies according to your initial skin concern, or the depth of scarring you wish to minimise. This micro-injury prompts the skin to heal and repair itself and causes new collagen and elastin to form, whilst helping the breakdown of old collagen. This leads to smoother, more refined skin and a visible reduction of fine lines and acne scars due to the skin tightening and remodelling.
I initially trained in micro-needling over 8 years ago, using Dermaroller®. However, I have found Dermapen™ a much better technique for treating problem areas around the eyes and mouth. I have done hundreds of Dermapen™ treatments and I have a 100% safety record.
I have the experience to use Dermapen™ in combination with hyaluronic acid and other skin boosters. As the skin is needled, it is more receptive to these ingredients, which have difficulty penetrating intact skin.
Treatments are available at my clinics at Bute House, Bridge Road, Frampton on Severn, Gloucestershire, GL2 7HA and Sevenfields Dental Health Centre, Woodcutters Mews, Swindon, SN25 4AU.

As the Dermapen™ treats your skin, it creates micro-punctures in the skin.
This is perceived by the body as damage, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. Your skin normally assumes that scars, stretch marks and wrinkles are repaired, but with micro-needling, the skin is 'tricked' into further repairing itself by producing more collagen and elastin.
The process of healing can continue for months after each micro-needling treatment. Results can be seen within a week. Your skin naturally rejuvenates every 6 weeks, so with micro-needling stimulation changes can be dramatic and fast. This will be age-dependent.
Visible results of skin rejuvenation are generally seen after just 6-8 weeks following the treatment and will improve over further time. A stand-alone treatment will be of some help, but a course of treatments will give a much better healing response. To improve the appearance of acne scarring, a course of treatments along with a combination of other treatments may be necessary.
Dermapen™ is suitable for all skin types and treats a range of skin conditions such as:
Prior to your medical micro-needling treatment, numbing cream will be applied to make to experience more comfortable.
After treatment, your skin will be red and flushed in appearance, comparable to a mild sunburn. You will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity at the treated area. This will settle over a few hours with improvements continuing for the next 3-5 days. You can wear makeup the next day. Your skin may appear more dry than normal with mild flakiness for the next 7 days. Allow time away from social engagements and work if required.
The precision of Dermapen™ reduces the side effects of the treatment on the tissues surrounding the treatment area. The Dermapen™ tip is small and easy to direct around the eye and mouth areas. Dermapen™ causes less damage to the skin than Dermaroller®, as the needles go straight into the skin rather than sideways (which risks ripping and tearing the skin which is more traumatic and painful).
Recovery time is better with Dermapen™ compared to Dermaroller®.
It is an effective alternative to laser treatment.
